Most Dramatic Synod Day: Overwhelming Rejection of Empowering Bishop's Conferences
The proposal for the final document sought to recognise "Episcopal Conferences as ecclesial subjects endowed with doctrinal authority, recognising 'socio-cultural diversity' [= heresy] within the framework of a multifaceted Church".
This would mean, for example, homosexual "blessings" in decadent Europe, but not in the growing Church of Africa.
Several delegates from different language groups and geographical backgrounds expressed concern about the proposal, which has no basis in Scripture, Church tradition or common sense.
One synod member told NcRegister.com that the level of opposition was "tremendous". "The majority is clearly against it. Overwhelmingly."
The organisers had Canadian "theologian" Gilles Routhier, who teaches in Paris, give an impromptu speech to allay concerns.
Katholisch.de reports an "unusually clear confrontation". One member said: "A fragmented faith also means a fragmented Church".
Sydney Archbishop Anthony Fisher told EWTN.com that the Church could not "reinvent the Catholic faith" or "teach a different Catholicism in different countries".
