Francis Suffers From “Neurotic Anxiety”
He plans to die in Rome “as pope, either in office or as an emeritus.” Francis also spoke about his psychiatric treatment with a “great woman psychiatrist” once a week for six months.
He never underwent psychoanalysis but spoke with her about the great risks he allegedly took in helping people to escape during the military government in Argentina. As the Jesuit Provincial he allegedly smuggled in his car people hidden only under sheets through military bases.
Francis admits that he suffers from “neurotic anxiety,” but has learned to overcome it by listening to Bach and sipping maté. Neurotic anxiety originates from unconscious conflict within ones own mind and has negative effects on the individuals abilities to cope with a change in emotions.
He also reveals that he suffered a kind of pre-cardiac attack problem during his time as archbishop that was resolved.
