Death notice of Father Reginald Wiśniowski, OP - the oldest Polish Dominican
February evening, in our monastery, Fr. Reginald (Stanisław) Wiśniowski, died surrounded by the prayer of brothers gathered at the Provincial Chapter. Stanisław Wiśniowski, was born on November 12, 1920 in Czortków (Lviv voivodship). He had nine siblings, of whom three sisters became Dominicans and one Josephine. In Czortków, Stanisław also attended primary school in 1927-1931 and high school in humanities in 1931-1939. High school exam passed on 23 May 1939.
He entered the Dominican Order in Kraków on July 29, 1939, receiving the name Reginald. He made his first profession on September 8, 1940, and perpetual on September 8, 1943. In Cracow in 1940-1946 he also studied philosophy and theology, crowned with the religious title of theology teacher on July 21, 1946 on the basis of his pt. The virtue of sacrifice (generosity) according to Saint. Thomas Aquinas, written under the direction of Fr. Jacek Woroniecki. He was ordained a priest on June 17, 1945 by Bishop Michał Godlewski. In the years 1950-1957 he was a master (educator) of clerics in Jarosław and Kraków. He also lectured at the College of Philosophy and Theology in years (1949-1958) liturgy, homiletics, cosmology, sociology, history of philosophy, logic, practical moral theology and archeology. He was, among others the director of the Dominican Pre-school Center in Warsaw (1970-80). At the same time, he conducted retreats and missions throughout Poland. He also took advantage of the possibility of pastoral work in Ukraine and in the years 1991-1996 he stayed for this purpose in his hometown of Czortków, refurbishing, among others, the local church, p.w. St. Stanisław Biskupa. From 1970, he organized a pilgrimage on the first Sunday of October to the miraculous painting of the Mother of God from Chortkiv, currently in the Dominican church in Warsaw (Freta 10).
He was distinguished by religious zeal. As long as physical strength allowed him, he faithfully participated in the joint breviary and Mass. Conventual.
