Belgian Prime Minister Summoned Nuncio Over Francis' Abortion Remarks
The politician has summoned the Apostolic Nuncio, Archbishop Franco Coppola, for a meeting (CathoBel.be, 3 October).
In Parliament, 'Green' MP Sarah Schlitz was furious at Francis' apt comparison of abortionists to contract killers.
Socialist MP Caroline Désir, a former education minister, attacked, "Mr Prime Minister, you welcomed a religious leader who used his visit to express his most retrograde [= sensible] and patriarchal [= human] positions on women."
Prime Minister De Croo claimed that Francis' remarks were "unacceptable" saying that "we have no lessons to learn about the way in which our parliamentarians democratically vote on [criminal] laws".
And, "The time when the Church dictated the law in our country is, fortunately, long gone." After his disrespectful and anti-Christian statements, he called for "respect", first and foremost for the "contract killers" (Francis) of unborn human beings, but also for their murderous mothers.
De Croo announced that his message to Nuncio Coppola would be very clear: "What has happened is unacceptable."
Rev. Gabriel Ringlet, a former vice-rector of the Catholic University of Louvain, struck the same tone. He described Francis' comments on abortion on Rtbf.fe as "unbearable". Ringlet is "very proud" of the university rector for criticising Francis’ remarks.
Belgium is a decadent country that suffers from a decadent Church and a decadent regime.
