Secular Journalist: “I Do Not Like This Pontificate, Because I Detest Populism”

Francisco Marhuenda, 61, the editor of LaRazon.es, a former Spanish politician who was "very pleased" with Bergoglio's election, comments on Francis' downgrading of the Opus Dei on LaRazon.es (23 July). Highlights.

• “There is no objective reason to justify such nonsense, beyond the eccentric phobias of a Jesuit Pope for whom even Jesuits have no sympathy.”

• “I understand that a Pope can amend a predecessor when reality makes it necessary, for whatever reasons, but I do not understand it when it is the expression of the disaffection he feels for other charisms.”

• Francis’ decisions are as surprising as they are unjust and arbitrary.
