Archbishop Survives Knife Attack

An 80-year-old man attacked Durango Archbishop Faustino Armendáriz, Mexico, with a knife in the cathedral sacristy after 21 May Sunday Mass. The attacker was later arrested.

Nine priests have been murdered in Mexico since 2018. On 22 May, Augustinian Father Javier García Villafaña was shot dead in his car on the Cuitzeo-Huandacareo highway in Michoacán.

Earlier in May, a tabernacle was broken open in a church and another church was set on fire.
