Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, Virgin
we will read the readings of the day!
We can become an offering of love!
Saint Kateri Tekakwitha was born in present day Auriesville, NY. In 1656 because of an outbreak of small pox, both her father a mother died, so she was raised by her uncle. Kateri's father was the chief Indian of the Mohawk Indians. As a result of so many Indians dying, they all moved their camp across the river to present day Fonda, NY, and there they built another long house. And when I was a student where I am now, I was asked by one of our own fellow priests, who was an excellent archaeologist to come and help find the layout of their new camp in Fonda, NY. All he gave me was a small dust pan and brush, and we unearthed their original longhouse. While Kateri was in Fonda all the young braves wanted to marry Kateri because her father was a Mohawk Indian Chief. So Kateri moved out to protect her own virginity and walked to Canada where she died in a Mohawk Indian village. I returned to this place called Canawaga after many Indians had returned from her beatification. At her beatification and her canonization many Mohawk Indians were at Saint Peter's Basilica dressed in their very beautiful Indian apparel.
First Isaiah 26:7-9, 12, 16-19 THIS READING IS A HYMN of lament and an assuring of a Divine response. This is a long lament assuring them of a Divine Response. This reading is a long and extensive song of lamentation which is followed by an assurance to the effect that in "a little time" "verse 20" the time of God's judgment of the nations will become complete and an answer to the prayers of Israel sad past will be removed. So this hymn expresses hope for a time of peace "verse 12" and the restoration of their nation in "Verse 15;" so it says: "Your dead will rise" and a divine light will fall on your darkness in "verse 19." END OF READING! This told the Jews and it tells us that new life requires effort and faith.
Matthew 11:28-30 HERE JESUS TELLS US that in the journey of our life we will be given strength, encouragement, hope and help. So in this Gospel Jesus tells us: "Come to Me, all you who labor and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke...For My yoke is easy and My burden is light." END OF GOSPEL!
CONCLUSION: This tells us that we can accomplish much more than we believe our power can accomplish! With faith our yoke is easy and our burden is light and we become an offering of love! The Shrine of Saint Keteri Tekakwitha is close to Albany, N.Y. 45 minutes.
Peace,
Angelo.
