Pro-life, pro-family protestors arrested at University of Regina

The Christian community is being marginalized warns a lawyer who will represent two pro-life, pro-family protestors arrested April 14 at the University of Regina.

"There is no doubt the noose is tightening for Christians," said Weyburn, Sask., lawyer Tom Schuck, who will represent Peter LaBarbera of Americans for Truth About Homosexuality, and Christian activist Bill Whatcott, who were handcuffed, charged with mischief and taken to jail during a peaceful protest on the campus.

"What's astounding is our Christian leadership do not seem to be aware of what is happening," he said.

Schuck, who is a member of the Catholic Civil Rights League, has represented Whatcott in several other cases including one that reached the Supreme Court of Canada (SCOC).

"We've been almost 100 per cent successful in defending him," said Schuck. "The only time we slipped was in the Supreme Court." Several groups such as the League and the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada intervened in the case.
