Leo XIV Names Cristina Perrella as Director of Pontifical Academy - Promoted Homoeroticism and Night Clubs

Contacts with Pro-Homosexual Cardinal
Cristiana Perrella’s curatorial record shows a history of engaging with themes of nudity, homoerotica, and nightclub culture.
In 2021, she was abruptly dismissed as Director of the Luigi Pecci Centre for Contemporary Art in Prato by the Tuscany Foundation for Contemporary Arts. Local media sources cited only rumours that the dismissal was due to Perrella’s “failure to meet certain goals” established by the board.
In March 2025, Perrella was appointed director of the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea di Roma, becoming the first woman to lead this major institution.
In February 2025, she was appointed curator of the Vatican's Conciliazione 5 programme for the Jubilee Year. According to an Artuu.it report, Perrella was invited based on her pre-existing relationship with the Dicastery for Culture and Education, which is headed by the pro-homosexual Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça.
Defender of Nightclubs
In 2019, under Cristiana Perrella’s directorship, the Centro Pecci in Prato hosted the exhibition 'Night Fever: Designing Club Culture 1960–Today'. The exhibition promoted nightclub culture and featured many disturbing exposés.
In an interview with Sleek-Mag.com, Perrella expressed regret that nightclubs are 'increasingly under threat'. She cited Great Britain and Berlin as examples, where nightclubs have been closing in their dozens.
She acknowledged the important role of nightclubs in "queer culture", stating that "these were places where people could be themselves and publicly affirm their identity".
Sexual Organs and Sadomasochism are Elegant and Poetic
In 2020, Perrella curated an exhibition of photographs by the Chinese artist Ren Hang. The exhibition included 90 works, many of which displayed sexual organs and featured homosexual poses.
One photograph showed a naked man urinating on a kneeling man with a plastic bag over his head.
All of the bodies on display, whether male or female, were slender, pale and androgynous.
The exhibition's description acknowledges that the photographs "refer to sadomasochism and fetishism".
Perrella described the acts depicted on CentroPecci.it as poetic, elegant and melancholic.
Porn cinema posters
In 2021, Perrella curated an exhibition entitled: Marialba Russo. Cult Fiction.
This exhibition showcased over 60 large-format photographs from Marialba Russo’s series documenting the porn cinema posters that once covered the streets of Naples and Aversa during Italy's red-light theatre boom of the late 1970s.
The exhibition focused on "sexual liberation".
