POPE FRANCIS ADVANCES THE WORK OF SSPX: INTERVIEW WITH BISHOP FELLAY
IN THIS VIDEO INTERVIEW LINKED BELOW, BISHOP FELLAY EXPLAINS THE SSPX's RELATIONS WITH POPE FRANCIS AND ROME, and HOW THESE RELATIONS HAVE PRODUCED MAJOR COLLABORATIVE OUTCOMES and RECOGNITION FOR SSPX:
1) MARRIAGES: In 2016, after 10 years of discussions with Rome concerning the Sacrament of Matrimony and the Catholic Church's jurisdiction over same, Bishop Fellay and Pope Francis concluded that the best arrangement for SSPX Marriages was for the Local Ordinaries to delegate the Faculties for Marriage directly to SSPX Priests and that SSPX Priests may offer the Nuptial Masses.
A Diocesan Priest is present as a witness of the Vows for the local jurisdiction in which the marriage takes place; while the Marriages are recorded with SSPX.
This is the arrangement referred to in Misericordia et Misera wherein Pope Francis announces to the Catholic Church that SSPX has been granted formal Canonical Faculties.
_______________
2) LOCAL ORDINARIES: Bishop Fellay asked Pope Francis what should be done if a Local Ordinary refuses to collaborate with SSPX in this manner concerning Marriages. Pope Francis replied: "Then I will do it!" [provide the delegation]
_______________
3) SSPX ORDINATIONS: Bishop Fellay also explained that in 2016, the same year SSPX received formal Canonical faculties from Pope Francis, he also received a letter from Rome stating: "You can freely ordain your Priests without permission of the Local Ordinary."
Thus, it is clear that SSPX Ordinations are considered by Rome to be both valid and licit.
_______________
These facts should dispel forever any concern that SSPX Ordinations are done illicitly and under canonical penalty or "schismatic", and any false assertions that Rome considers the Society of Pope Saint Pius X to be in schism.
