Dear Fr Jefferey,

The Parish you serve seems to be lamentablely musically impoverished; the major parts of the Ordinay of the Mass are not sung (not even the Gloria - important on such a Solemnity!). This is such a pity, because, as Cardinal Farina of the Pontifical Institute of Music has declared, the standard at which a Parish keeps its liturgical celebrations is a reflection of the "beauty of Truth" they practice. The lex credendi - lex orandi maxim.

Clearly this Parish is yet to discover the beauty of Truth in Christ Jesus and so reflect same in their liturgical paxis.

On the other hand, one is sensible of the fact that the Roman Catholic Church of today is unaccustomed to paying musicians for their labour. Therefore, one must accept whatever one receives and be greatful. Nevertheless, isn't it the duty of the Priest to challenge mediocrity? To encourage souls to be the best that they can be?

THe cantrix at this Mass needs singing lessons, and guitar lessons - not to mention liturgical instruction. Maybe the Parish could sponsor her to go on one of the Sacred Music Colloquium weekends held by Musica Sacra. She would really benefit!

Pax in Domino
😇 🤗
