Why Was Boston Cardinal O’Malley Not Included?
The Boston Herald has complained that Pope Francis did not include Boston Cardinal Sean O’Malley as a member of the organizing committee for the February summit aimed at preventing abuse. The Herald claims that this is a vote of no confidence. In January O’Malley distanced himself from Francis’ handling of abuses in Chile. But shortly after it became known that O’Malley ignored a June 2015 letter detailing homosexual abuses committed by Cardinal McCarrick.
Cardinal Engages In Violence Against Words
In a video message, Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, the president of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, claimed that violence against women is – quote – “a kind of sacrilege”. Now, violence against women is terrible, unacceptable, dishonourable and a scandal. But it is not a sacrilege which refers to God or sacred objects or persons. When words start meaning anything, at the end they mean nothing. This is what presently happens in the Catholic Church. By killing words, one kills the truth. And killing the truth is the first step to killing human beings.

On Sunday, Archbishop Bernard-Nicolas Aubertin of Tours, France consecrated the church in St-Cyr-sur-Loire, although it was built in 1966. Then, the archdiocese aimed at building a church that was “sober, simple and modest” and – quote – “in harmony with the houses built for our contemporaries” whose style and the – quote – “religious sensibility of our time” it should mirror. Since for 52 years the church only had a provisional meal-table, it was never consecrated. Now the former altar of Tours cathedrale was installed. The church is dedicated to Saint Pius X. Riposte-Catholique comments, “the holy pope is likely to turn in his grave.”

Kinshasa Archdiocese welcomed on November 18 the chargé d'affaires to the apostolic nunciature in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Archbishop Ettore Balestrero. Fifteen bishops and 100 priests concelebrated. Balestrero addressed the faithful also in Lingala, the language spoken in Kinshasa. A bishop presented Balestrero with a chasuble belonging to the rite of Zaire which was recognized by John Paul II. Balestrero was downgraded from nuncio in Colombia to chargé d’affaires in Congo after it became known that he is being prosecuted because he is allegedly involved in a money laundering affair regarding the business of his family.
