The blind can see!
Gospel of Sunday, October 28, 2018

Dear brothers and sisters, the passage from the Gospel of Mark, which we will listen next Sunday, October 28, presents an enthusiastic crowd that follows Jesus through the streets of Jericho. Enthusiasm that comes from seeing the victory of Love over hatred, of truth over lies, of hope over despair, of Life over death.

How many times had Jesus said to his disciples: "Blessed are the eyes that see what you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it." (Lk 10: 23-24).

And it’s precisely on the way out of Jericho that Jesus, healing the blind Bartimaeus, manifests Himself as the Light of the world!

It’s amazing the behavior full of humility, courage and determination of the poor Bartimaeus who, despising the invitation of the crowd to make silence in order not to disturb the Master, shouts out loud: Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me! And keep on shouting until Jesus stop and says to those who follow him: bring him to me!

So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you." He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?”. The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you."
Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way. (Mk 10, 49-53)

That's the way it is, dear brothers and sisters, only the humbly recognizement of one own sinfulness can unleash God's pure and powerful love!

In this sense, dear brothers and sisters, God forbid that the terrible words addressed by Jesus to the Pharisees, who believed themselves self-sufficient and not in need of God's love and mercy, may be applied to us also: “I came into this world for judgment, so that those who do not see might see, and those who do see might become blind.”

Dear brothers and sisters, Let's follow Jesus, just as the blind Bartimaeus did... Let's always follow Jesus, Let's follow Him up to the "madness of the Cross" ...
