Benedict XVI dedicated his reflection before the Angelus on December 26, to St. Stephen and the importance of martyrdom. The Pope also remembered the two kidnapped Italian nuns in Kenya and all the hostages in the world.
In St. Stephen, the Pope reiterated, we see the first fruits of salvation that the birth of Christ brought to humanity: the victory of life over death, of love over hatred, and of the light of truth over the darkness of lies.
We praise God so that this victory makes it possible for so many Christians today not to respond to evil with evil, but with the power of truth and love.
