Madrid Prosecutors Investigate Bishop Munilla Over Criticism of Homosexuality Law
The extremist platform “Tu Pueblo y el Mío” filed the complaint. It focuses on comments that Munilla made on May 3 during a Radio María broadcast.
He noted that psychologists who support individuals with unwanted homosexual inclinations are "threatened" when their work is interpreted as an attempt at "change." The bishop added that guidance toward a life of chastity is now considered prohibited "conversion therapy."
Spain has banned conversion therapy nationwide since 2023.
The platform argues that Munilla’s remarks go beyond what is protected by freedom of religion or expression and constitute a call for discrimination.
In response, Bishop Munilla wrote on social media that he has not been notified of any investigation. This is an attempt to intimidate the Church into silence.
He claims it is "ironic" to defend gender self-determination while denying homosexuals individuals the freedom to seek religious guidance aimed at living chastely.
Bishop Munilla says his remarks addressed the law itself, criticizing the prohibition of "supposed" conversion therapies, and he insists his pastoral ministry will continue to support those who ask for help living in chastity.
