Francis Appointed Advocates of the [invalid] Ordination of Women to Ex-Synod
On 17th February Pope Francis appointed six new members to the Ex-Synod of Bishops that will take place from 2nd to 27th October:
- Monsignor Alphonse Borras, Episcopal Vicar of the Diocese of Liege.
- Gilles Routhier, professor of theology at Laval University in Canada.
- Ormond Rush, Associate Professor of Theology at the Australian Catholic University.
- Sister Birgit Weiler, M.M.S., Professor of Theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru.
- Professor Tricia C. Bruce, President-elect of the Association for the Sociology of Religion.
- Maria Clara Lucchetti Bingemer, Professor of Theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro.
The three women support the idea of [invalidly] ordaining women to the priesthood.
Sister Birgit Weiler is a member of the Medical Missionary Sisters. She works in the Amazon. According to her, "it must be possible for women who feel called to it to be admitted to the priesthood". Weiler knows of sisters in the Amazon who have been "authorised" by their bishop to [invalidly] administer the Anointing of the Sick.
Tricia Bruce is a sociologist who wrote in 2021 a report supporting the ordination of deaconesses.
Maria Clara Lucchetti Bingemer is a "feminist theologian" at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro. She holds the erroneous belief that a woman can validly receive the sacrament of Holy Orders and can act as an "alter Christus" and "in persona Christi". She is listed as a contributor to the website CatholicWomenPreach.org.
