Homosex Party: Vatican Investigates Resigned Bishop
The Bishops' Congregation ordered Liverpool's Archbishop Malcom McMahon to investigate the circumstances of Newcastle Bishop Robert Byrne's resignation, especially the allegations of a sex party in premises adjoining the local cathedral (TheTimes.co.uk, January, 22).
Catholic-friendly Byrne resigned in December. There is no suggestion that Byrne was aware of the party.
Father Michael McCoy, 57, dean of the cathedral who committed suicide four days after finding out in April 2021 he was being investigated by police for child abuse, allegedly invited worshippers to a sex party in his quarters during lockdown.
A few months after he became a bishop 2019, Byrne appointed McCoy to his position.
