Edmund Genings konvertierte im Alter von 17 Jahren zum katholischen Glauben und wurde 1590 in Reims zum Priester ordiniert. Nach einigen Jahren des Wirkens in England wurde er bei der Feier einer geheimen häuslichen Messe in London ertappt, gefangen genommen und in Gray's Inn Fields zu Tode gemartert. Mit ihm starben Polydore Plasden, Eustachius White, John Mason, Sydney Hodgson und Swithun Wells.
Edmunds Tod bewog seinen jüngeren Bruder John Genings, ebenfalls Katholik zu werden; 1619 konnte er zunächst den Dritten Orden der Franziskaner in England aufbauen, 1629 wurde er Ordensprovinzial für England.
Kanonisation: Edmund Genings wurde am 25. Dezember 1929 zusammen mit weiteren 26 Märtyrern aus England und Wales von Papst Pius XI. seliggesprochen; am 25. Oktober 1970 wurde er zusammen mit weiteren 36 Märtyrern aus England und Wales von Papst Paul VI. heiliggesprochen.
