Do you know there were synods held during the papacies of JPII and BXVI? Some good documents were produced by synods.
Francis used synods to try to undermine Church doctrine.

So far Leo doesn't seem interested in overturning doctrine--or muddling it
Do you remember how Francis tried to end celibacy? He tried to insist that it was necessary in the Amazon. Then it would be turned to local synods (hello. Germany).
Btw, the Amazon masquerade was also used at Vat II to get permanent deacons.
