Tabula Rasa: Vatican Replaced Destroyed Candlesticks

The management of St Peter's has replaced the six precious candlesticks on the high altar with small, wretched candles.

A guard told the journalist Michael Haynes that these banal candles will now be the norm, except during papal ceremonies.

The former antique candlesticks may have been destroyed by a vandal last Friday because of the Vatican's dysfunctional security system.

St Peter's has enough beautiful candlesticks in its cellars to decorate the altar.

These candle sticks and Crucifix were even used when Paul VI was pope! Don’t like them! I am sure for any public Masses they will bring out the larger ones!

They weren’t destroyed unless they were ceramic and shattered, which I highly doubt, he just knocked them over. What a crock.

Ah, now we see why the culprit got so close to the sacred place. Reminds me when at a parish I attended some "repairs" necessitated the closure of the church for a week, only to find out that the pastor had workmen take hacksaws to the decades old green marble altar rail! Fiat accompli !!! 😤

Who knew the Vatican was this skint?

Ugliness IS the point.

Blech.
