Handyman Admits of Killing Of Bishop

Carlos Medina, 61, who was arrested on February 20 has admitted killing Bishop David O’Connell, an LA prosecutor announced.

The motive for the murder is unknown. Medina faces life in prison if convicted. Investigators believe O'Connell was asleep when he was shot five times with a small-calibre weapon, LaTimes.com reported.

Medina had been arrested several times for drug use and had been acting erratically in recent weeks.

He is the husband of O’Connell’s longtime housekeeper and had done some handyman work at O’Connell’s homoe. Medina’s lawyer is seeking a psychiatric evaluation for Medina.

Gascon will likely cut a plea deal and end up asking the court to sentence Medina to probation.

A 61 year old man murdering a Bishop just for kicks not likely 🤔

Orthocat

I don't think it was "for kicks" I suspect he was high on drugs or something. From my reading, the bishop was your typical "bleeding heart" liberal who had progressive views (in conflict with the Faith), but tried to help poor people. Sometimes poor people are wicked, and strike back at their benefactors. All this effort by Catholic media (CM for example) to make this some kind of evil conspiracy seems misplaced to me.

may be something to do with the wife?

Life in prison -- right, maybe about two weeks' worth, if we would reinstate the death penalty.

He’s more likely to be released after a couple of years if they find him not guilty by reason of insanity. I know of a case from about 30 years ago in California where a woman who murdered her 2 young daughters was released from the looney bin after 4 years.
