Prime Minister Calls Cardinal "Miserable"

Peru’s Prime Minister Anibal Torres, 79, has insulted Spanish-born Huancayo Cardinal Pedro Barreto but – in an absurd twist - later claimed he "never meant to offend" him.
"There we have a priest […], the priest Valverde, sorry, I made a mistake, the priest who is the authority in Huancayo, whose name I have forgotten at the moment. This person can be so miserable," Torres said in statements to the programme 'La universidad al aire'.
He continued, “I have spoken with him in previous days, and he thinks that we are stupid, and don’t realise it. Of course, what he is doing is in favour of this power group in Peru. He never speaks in favour of the great majorities, he does not mention what we are doing," Torres said about Cardinal Barreto.
Barreto is one of Francis’ Pachamama Cardinals. The country's current government is trying to curb the influence of US-controlled oligarchs.
