John the Baptist: Vigil Lamp of the Blessed Sacrament.
In a way the Vigil Lamp of the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar very much represents St. John the Baptist. Is it not crying out: Behold the Lamb of God! He is here… Know Him! Love Him! Serve Him! After all, His Majesty did call the Baptist a “burning and shining Lamp”, and King David spoke of the same greatest of prophets as a Lamp: “I have prepared a lamp for my anointed” (cf. Ps 131:17). The Vigil Lamp for the Most Blessed of All Sacraments as seen by Ven. Mother Marianna of 17th Century Quito in a special vision for our times helps us understand the need we have today of imitating the great St. John and carrying on his great work.
