A portion of a major bridge in the US city of Baltimore has collapsed after a large ship collided with it, sending multiple vehicles into the water. About 1:30am local time (3pm AEST), a large vessel crashed into Francis Scott Key Bridge, catching on fire before sinking and causing multiple vehicles to fall into the Patapsco River below, according to a video posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. Life is stranger than fiction. The ship's name is Dali. Salvador Dali painted a picture called "The broken bridge".
Seeing this come down like matchsticks makes me shutter that cars traveled over it for years! It must have had structural flaws or deferred maintenance for it to totally collapse like that.

I don’t think any similar bridge could survive having one of its piers destroyed, but, other bridges have large concrete structures in the water to protect their piers, which was not the case here. That’s a huge problem.
