Parish Archbishop “Puts His Mandate Back”

Paris Archbishop Michel Aupetit who hit the headlines because of an alleged affair with a woman, has put his mandate back in the hands of Francis – as if an archbishop were a mere governor of the pope.

“I handed over my office to the Pope to safeguard the diocese,” he told La-Croix.com, stressing that he didn’t use the word “resignation.”

"I do it for the diocese, not for what I am supposed to have done in the past," he explained.
