200 Churches Gone

The Catholic Church is on its knees after the 7.2 earthquake on August 14 with multiple powerful aftershocks on in Western Haiti.

2500 people, among them two priests, died. 200 Catholic churches were destroyed, 150 damaged. The historical Immaculate Conception Church in Les Anglais, constructed in 1907, collapsed during Mass, killing 17 people aged 24 and younger.

At Toirac village, 20 people died in the collapse of the local church during a funeral.

The Church also lost 88 schools while 131 were damaged.
