In June, the Loyola College in Chennai, India, hired a certain Dr Jency as assistant professor in the Department of English. He currently claims to be a "transgender female". The college is run by the Jesuits.
On 2 October, CatholicConnect.in, an official platform run by the Catholic Bishops' Conference of India, published an interview full of praise for Jency. His appointment is described as 'a momentous stride for transgender representation in higher education'. Jency is referred to as a 'changemaker'.
At Loyola College, he collaborates with the Jesuits to allocate 7–12 places each year for "transgender students" to study for free.
The transgender activist also devotes his time to pressure groups such as the Transgender Rights Association in Kolathur and the Solidarity Foundation in Bangalore.
