Gio Benitez, the openly gay ABC news anchor, has rejoined the Roman Catholic Church, receiving a confirmation mass with his 'husband' at his side. There is some confusion about this story. The person in question was baptized as a child in the Catholic Church sources report. He and/or his family later neglected to arrange for him to receive the sacrament of Confirmation - usually given during the teen years in most dioceses. This is JUST him correcting that error. It is inaccurate to say he was "re-joining the Church" or "coming into full communion" etc. (unless he had at some point explicitly & publicly rejected the Faith & joined a Protestant sect or another religion). To assert otherwise is to imply that Catholic children prior to Confirmation are somehow NOT part of the Church. Of course, it's apparent that this was played up as more significant by the 'priests' who oversaw this event to make it more of a public spectacle! Oh, BTW if he was reverting to the Faith - he should have made a full integral confession of all his sins and repented of them!
