Leo XIV Rejects the Title “Co-Redemptrix” for Our Lady
Please, before giving opinions, educate yourselves well in all dogmatic theology. Pope Benedict XVI also supported the dogma. Pope Pius XII, in Ad Caeli Reginam, mentions Mary’s role in redemption and salvation. Saints such as Padre Pio, Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Saint Alphonsus Maria de Liguori, and Saint Maximilian Kolbe have spoken openly about the Co-Redemption. Let's pray to the Holy Spirit.
Leo XIV Rejects the Title “Co-Redemptrix” for Our Lady
IUCUNDA SEMPER
EXPECTATIONE
ENCYCLICAL OF POPE LEO XIII
ON THE ROSARY that treat Mary as Mediatrix and Co-Redemptrix:
2 “The recourse we have to Mary in prayer follows upon the office she continuously fills by the side of the throne of God as Mediatrix of Divine grace; being by worthiness and by merit most acceptable to Him… For in the Rosary all the part that Mary took as our co-Redemptress comes to us, as it were, set forth…”
3 “…she took her part in the laborious expiation made by her Son for the sins of the world… she suffered in the very depths of her soul with His most bitter sufferings… offered generously to Divine Justice her own Son, and died in her heart with Him…”
4 “…wherein likewise is revealed the mediation of the great Virgin, still more abundant in fruitfulness… praying with the Apostles and entreating for them… she hastens for the Church the coming of the Spirit, the Comforter…”
These passages show that Leo XIII described Mary as Mediatrix—interceding by the throne of God—and as Co-Redemptress—sharing, in a subordinate way, in Christ’s redemptive suffering.
