After the death of Pope Pius XII, his apparent successor decided to call upon a General Council. The Second Vatican Council, as it is known, took place under John XXIII and Paul VI successively, between the years 1962 and 1965. These two popes - so called - maneuvered the Council in such a way as to favor the most radical ideas which were being defended by the so called “new theologians”. The New Theology was a rebranding of Modernism, a heresy condemned by the Church. To make a long story short: the new theologians had in mind one single goal: to change the Church from within in order to adapt it to the modern world.
