On 30 March, Pope Leo XIV appointed Archbishop Paolo Rudelli as Substitute for General Affairs of the Secretariat of State, making him the Vatican’s third most senior official. Born in Gazzaniga, Italy in 1970, Monsignor Rudelli was ordained to the priesthood in 1995. He studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University and joined the Vatican diplomatic service in 2001.
