Turin Archdiocese, Italy, issued instructions concerning the confirmation of transvestites (LaNuovaBq.it, April 8), undoubtedly an extremely urgent issue.
The parish registers are told to stick to the baptismal name but to add the candidate's fake name as contained in civil registers.
The fake name may not [yet] be used for possible future marriages, the Archdiocese writes, but it instructs the priests to call the person during the rite of confirmation by their fake name.
This constitutes a sacrilege because confirmation may only be received in the state of grace. Persons denying their gender place themselves in opposition to God’s will, therefore they need repentance, confession and absolution.
The very rare cases of transvestite candidates for confirmation must be postponed until this conversion happens.

I'm still on the fence on this. While genetics (either XX or XY) may be determined at conception, the in-utero hormone levels have a lot of influence. Expose an XX foetus to high levels of testosterone during development and the result is masculisation. Expose an XY foetus to high level of estrogen during development and the result is feminisation. We, as a culture, need to decide whether gender resides between the legs or between the ears.
