Benedict XVI’s Tragedy

Internal "boycott campaigns" against Benedict XVI's attempts at reform "gradually worn him down," writes the famous Spanish author Juan Manuel de Prada (ABC.es, January 2).

He esteems Ratzinger as great intellectual who is also a "weak man with a somewhat pessimistic background". His "intellectual vocation" became an "escape in the midst of the storm.”

Prada speaks of the "tragedy" of a "clear-sighted man who was able to diagnose the reasons for the evil that caused the gangrene of the Church" but who lacked "the determination to tackle it" and "sufficient courage" to undertake the needed reforms.

For a pope, it is not enough to be a clever intellectual, Prada writes, but an "iron fist" is needed. Benedict's hand was "weak," and "it did not take long for his momentum to be broken".

"His weakness led to a resignation, the consequences of which are well known to minds that do not indulge in 'mediocre bigotry'."

why are you Catholic...is it because you like the buildings, the homilies, fellowship at Masses???? you are a 'member' of more than the current institutional group

We are Catholics in heaven (Triumphant), in purgatory (Suffering), on earth (Militant) benefitting from the valid, apostolic priesthood. Only a valid priest can confect the host (if you do not eat my body and drink...etc John 6:54) and forgive sins so that the Body and Blood may be received without condemnation (I Cor 11:17)

Buck up !!!! would you give up taking His dear Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity into your very self to Adore Him to console Him? surely you don't want to abandon Christ as he hangs on this cross !!! His Bride, the Church, is being trampled on, dirtied...and you talk of running elsewhere; where it's more comfortable ??

Don't think you really mean that.... so, cut the defeatist talk; you are much, much more courageous than that; you love Him too much for that.

Pope Benedict retained the papal munus and remained a channel of Grace to the Church -- in ways that only Our Lord knows. He stepped aside from the active ministry, not because he was weak, but to allow the masonic rats and haters of Our Lord Jesus Christ on the bark of St. Peter to be exposed - for those who have eyes to see: The final confrontation: Examining the end times through the lens of …More

This report is 100% true. That's the unfortunate record of Pope Benedict XVI. He was weak, which is why he quit. Had nothing to do with age, or supposed illness(at the time he wasn't sick). He reminded me alot of Paul VI (except Paul VI was basically an evil man, who sided with the heretics and Vatican II and appointed many of them). He reminded me alot of Paul VI (except Paul VI was basically an evil man, who sided with the heretics and Vatican II and appointed many of them). Ironically, at the very end of his life, Paul VI regretted many of his actions. Had there been no Vatican II when Paul VI was elected, I think he might have been another Pius XII, because a quote from him during the first 2-3 days of his papacy survives. He said to one of his associates regarding the Council " It is like I have been chosen to be as like a conductor of a train set on a course (Vatican II), that I myself would not have chosen."
Paul VI was weak, and let the radicals and liberals ruin the Church.
Benedict XVI was somewhat better in that he issued "Summorum Pontificum" despite the outrage of the liberals who savagely attacked everything he wanted to do after that. Had he been stronger, he would have stayed in office until last Saturday, and there would be no heretic like Bergoglio on the Throne of Peter today.

It's only partly true, not even 10%. He was not a weak man, but his battles were theological and conducted the way theologians do. He was truly a gentleman

Dear Kenjiro,
Let's try to think of a way that would negate the 'weak' argument. It is true Pope Benedict wasn't a confrontational, aggressive person. He wasn't the leader type.
....I know this is a stretch' but maybe...................
1. Benedict didn't completely resign the papacy. Some say the papacy cannot be bifurcated; others say it can. Nonetheless, he didn't completely resign.

1. Benedict didn't completely resign the papacy. Some say the papacy cannot be bifurcated; others say it can. Nonetheless, he didn't completely resign.
2. maybe he knew his life was in danger (think: JPI)
3. If he left the administrative reins(but not the spiritual ones) He knew that
4. the Curia that wants to destroy the Church wouldn't care a bout that as they now had the visible reins for the sake of constructing the NWO
5. But, Pope Benedict knew that whoever was (illegally and invalidly) put on the Sede would NOT have the power of the keys
6. That would give time for a solution

I know, I know...maybe I'm grasping at straws. But it is a strange world !!!

That makes a lot of sense, especially #2 and perhaps #5. I always think the bit some outlets have posted that Benedict XVI resigned because he was too old to travel much is ridiculous, because that's all John Paul II did, and it accomplished absolutely nothing. So since it accomplished zero, I don't think Pope Benedict XVI would quit because he couldn't travel. It was a waste of time in the first …More

So since it accomplished zero, I don't think Pope Benedict XVI would quit because he couldn't travel. It was a waste of time in the first place. I think the by some dark, underhanded scheme, the "Sankt Gallen Mafia" types forced him out, so they could put their man Bergoglio (who lost originally in 2005), in office in 2013......which they succeeded in doing, and we have been suffering from it since. But hopefully not much longer!
