The person responsible for the flimflam, Adrian Marbacher, 46, explains to the homosexualist Kath.ch (April 22), which is financed with church tax money, that he has a "great interest in shamanic rituals." The sweating ritual originated in this area and marks the transition from child to adult.
A hut is built out of branches and woollen blankets. Stones heated in fire are used to create sauna temperatures. Then the confirmands and their facilitator enter the hot, cramped, dark hut. Marbacher explains this as a "sauna for ritual purposes."
The confirmands wear bathing costumes and are wrapped in a cloth. "In the classical ritual, you are only clad in a cloth," Marbacher insists. Afterwards, questions are asked such as: What am I burning for? Where do I feel the Holy Spirit? What gives me support? Each young person gives an answer. The others respond with "Amen."
The exercise lasts forty minutes. Afterwards everyone takes a shower. Chur Diocese, to which Zurich belongs, recently issued a sex abuse Code of conduct. In order to comply with this, the sauna craze, also financed with church tax, needs to be adapted.
The so-called confirmands are never seen in a church again before and after, except in the sauna and during the confirmation eucharist.
