As horrific as this particular story is, the fact that “business” media would say something like this is what is most frightening. It is no longer taken as a given that supply should meet demand at a level that allows for reasonable prices. And, this is for a product that is a necessity (I know that reusable diapers exist, but they are not coming back into general use, unless everything breaks down). The excuse, I’m sure, has to do with the “environment.” As things stand, we can’t trust the market to provide the things we need in order to live. It’s very bad.
