Francis’ Church: The Dissolution Continues – Totus Tuus
Francis’ Dicastery for the Laity has rubber-stamped the November 2021 decision by Münster Bishop Felix Genn, Germany, to dissolve Totus Tuus Neuevangelisierung, a private association of the faithful (Bistum-Muenster.de, July 14).
Totus Tuus was accused of “sect-like structures,” “spiritual abuse,” “authoritarianism,” “unwillingness and inability of the leaders to recognise and remedy serious deficiencies in spiritual dealings with members,” “mixing of governance and spiritual direction,” “person-fixated and unreflective leadership style,” “refusal to accept criticism,” and “narrow-minded elitism.” Many of these accusations could also be directed against the Francis Church.
The community’s appeal against Genn’s decision has now been rejected by Rome. There is no independent jurisprudence in the Catholic Church.
