Dinner After the Conclave: Nobody Dared to Approach Leo XIV
The mood among the cardinals was tense and awkward during dinner after the Conclave, which is why nobody dared to sit at the new pope's table.
This information was revealed on Sunday evening on the Hungarian television channel RTL by the Archbishop of Belgrade, Serbia, Cardinal Laslo Nemet, a member of the Society of the Divine Word.
"He sat there alone, dressed all in white, looking a little lost."
Together with two other cardinals belonging to religious orders, Nemet decided that they couldn't leave the pope alone.
They went over to his table and asked if they could join him. “Of course, of course,” he replied. “And so I had dinner with the Pope,” the Belgrade cardinal recalls.
Cardinal Nemet remembers the moment when it became clear that Cardinal Prévost would be the new pope.
“When the votes came in and his election became increasingly certain, he simply buried his head in his hands.”
He himself had experienced Prevost as someone who did not seek office and did not belong to any …More
He seems like John the Baptist or indeed Our Lord, prepared by God in a hidden way and now begins his very public ministry. Immediately some recognised the Truth when they heard and saw what he said and did and on the other hand, detractors, slanderers and calumniators immediately began to try to spread their fear and distrust. Listen to him and judge his own words and actions. His use of their language does not mean he shares their understanding of those words. Look for his meaning.
Your last sentence is something I just said to someone else. GOD Bless you for not throwing stones. He is our Pope now. Our duty is to pray for him. Not throw stones before he even starts to show himself one way or the other.
Thanks, and may God bless you too :) We are being tried; how do we respond to a "just man"? Even if he is problematic in the future, thus far he has done no wrong. The charity of many has grown cold. They know Christ's words but are they gentle? Are they patient? I think for many the words of Our Blessed Lord are just words.
“Cardinal Sako, patriarch of Baghdad of the Chaldeans, revealed he was sitting next to Cardinal Prevost during the vote in the Sistine Chapel. He told the Register he had asked Pope Leo to speak out on behalf of persecuted Christians in the Middle East.”
It’s a good sign to elect someone who doesn’t want to be pope and buried his head in his hands.
Pope Saint Pius X even cried when he was elected. A sign of humility which GOD loves! And according to Saint Pio, Pope Pius X was the holiest Pope the Church ever had.
