Discredited Pectoral Cross
In August 2022, Francis announced his plans to make Van Looy a cardinal. Later, Van Looy backed out after it became known that he had been involved in covering up abuses.
One wonders why this withdrawal was necessary, since Francis has promoted three leading members of the McCarrick gang to cardinals.
Of recently created cardinals, at least three wear Francis' pectoral cross:
• Kilgali Cardinal Kambanda, 63, who during the 1994 Tutsi genocide lost his parents and five of his six siblings, along with many more relatives and friends.
• Spanish born Santiago de Chile Cardinal Celestino Aos Braco, 75, who refused Communion to kneeling faithful in April 2019.
• Spanish born David Cardinal José Luis Lacunza Maestrojuán, 78, Panama who invoked the goddess Pachamama in November 2022.
Already the anti-Catholic Chicago Cardinal Bernardin (+1996) who used to organise "pyjama parties" for young priests was seen wearing the same cross (below).
