Francis’ Ukraine Medal: Something Went Wrong

The Vatican's Numismatic Office has produced a silver medal wanted by Francis to raise funds for the people affected by Ukrainian war.

But when the silver medal created by Orietta Rossi, and Daniela Longo went on sale for €50 in May a misprint was noticed: the year of Francis’ pontificate was engraved with the numeral XII instead of X.

The sale was immediately stopped. The Vatican announced that the medal will be corrected.

This is not the first time, the Vatican made mistakes with medals. Benedict XVI issued a medal with “LESUS” instead of “IESUS.”
