Synod Document: Homosexuality an “Emerging Issue” – Continue "Inculturation" of Novus Ordo
“A special word must be reserved for the question of women's access to the diaconate,” the Interim Report notes, adding that the final document will address “the specific theme of the participation of women in the life and leadership of the Church.”
On homosexuality, the Interim Report states: “Some emerging issues (which we find more appropriate to designate thus rather than as controversial) will be addressed in a manner that offers an operational dimension to the proposals advanced.”
The Synodal “Paradigm Shift”: Subjectivity of Sinner
The document proposes a "principle of pastorality" as "an interpretive horizon to express this paradigm shift (also in relation to the love/truth relationship).”
It calls for a “mutual interaction between life (of the believer) and doctrine” and states: “There can be no proclamation of the Gospel of God without recognizing and promoting the subjectivity of the other.”
Decentralization of Liturgy – Inculturation of Rites
Regarding the Novus Ordo, the Interim Report asks: “How to continue along the path of a healthy decentralization of liturgical authority, valuing diocesan Bishops and Episcopal Conferences, also with a view to the inculturation of the rites.”
Furthermore, the report works on “making liturgical celebrations more an expression of synodality.”
Process for Choosing Bishops
On episcopal appointments, the Interim Report calls for broader involvement of the faithful: “Participation of the People of God [= journalists] in the episcopal selection process.”
It highlights “the desire to reinforce the role of the local Church as the natural setting for discernment both regarding its new Shepherd and regarding diocesan Presbyters to be proposed as possible candidates to the episcopacy.”
Protestant Reception of Communion
The Report also mentions giving Holy Communion to heretics without prior confession, or, in the euphemistic wording of the synod: “Deepening the question of Eucharistic hospitality from theological, canonical and pastoral perspectives, particularly regarding inter-confessional couples and families.”
