The Roman historian Roberto De Mattei believes he has discovered discrepancies between Archbishop Viganò’s statements before and after 2020 (CorrispondenzaRomana.it, June 21).
For him, Viganò’s “first” statements were rare, circumscribed in their contents, firm, of simplicity and nobility of language, and only referring to matters of which Viganò had direct knowledge.
Starting with the Covid wave, for De Mattei “something unexpectedly changed,” and “a new Archbishop Viganò” appeared onstage who expressed himself with a “barrage” of “pompous” and “sarcastic” statements against the “New World Order.”
Viganò expanded to the fields of theology, liturgy, geopolitics, and philosophy of history “in which Viganò had always said he had no expertise,” De Mattei writes adding that the liturgy and Vatican II became Viganò’s “hobbyhorse.” Therefore, he asks, “Is Archbishop Viganò really the author of the writings of the past year?”
