Pro-Abortion Senator Durbin Will Not Receive Church's Award - Cardinal Cupich Saddened

On 30 September, Cardinal Blase Cupich of Chicago announced that pro-abortion Senator Richard Durbin would not be receiving the Archdiocesan Award in November.
In a statement, Cardinal Cupich wrote that the senator had decided not to receive an award at the 'Keep Hope Alive' celebration in November.
Cardinal Cupich said he was “saddened by this news”, but that he respected the senator's decision.
He added without remorse: “I want to make clear that the decision to present him with an award was specifically in recognition of his singular contribution to immigration reform and his unwavering support of immigrants, which is so needed in our day.”

Bishop Vigano : Prevost delegitimizes the …

Cupich justifies his betrayal of the faith by arguing that a politician who promotes infanticide through partial-birth abortion can be honored for helping illegal immigration. So, why not give the award to a "coyote" (a person who smuggles immigrants across the Mexico–United States border), since, according to Cupich and Prevost, a person's moral integrity no longer matters?

Why doesn't Cupich direct those sugar-coated words to Prevost, urging him to allow all undocumented immigrants into the Vatican?
Vatican Cracks Down On Illegal Entry Into Its Territory
Why does Cupich address the faithful of the Church, but not call out the pro-abortion, pro-gay Senator, urging him to repent?
Furthermore, legal immigration does exist in the United States. Cupich speaks as if all of us Hispanics were denied entry.
Good idea, Cupich; universities can organize groups to investigate how all those illegal immigrants can invade the Vatican.
But first, why don't you come to California and address the problem of the homeless people (most of whom were born here in the United States) who are dying on the streets?

We should be glad this happened, it is showing the true colors of Cardinal Cupich. Ten Bishops Opposed him out of 400. It was an education for the Faithful!

Cardinal Cupich’s announcement brings an end to a chaotic late September in which his brother bishops criticized the decision to grant the award.

@sp2.. - If you find that upsetting, don't see the Pope's take on it.

When a scoundrel has more honor than a cardinal, we cannot deny that these are indeed in dark times.

Bishop Strickland comments on Leo's scandalous remarks on Durbin: "To say that 'no one has all the truth' in these matters undermines the very foundation of the Gospel of Life... I urge all of the faithful: stand firm in the truth. Do not be shaken when even the highest voices in the Church seem to speak with hesitation... We must continue to proclaim life boldly, to defend the unborn, and to call our shepherds – yes, even our Holy Father – to clarity, fidelity, and courage. The Church cannot afford ambiguity where life is concerned. Souls are at stake."

Leo on the case:
“I’m not terribly familiar with the particular case. I think that it is very important to look at the overall work that the senator has done during, if I’m not mistaken, 40 years of service in the United States Senate. I understand the difficulty and the tensions, but I think, as I myself have spoken in the past, it’s important to look at many issues that are related to what is the teaching of the church. Someone who says I am against abortion but says I am in favor of the death penalty is not really pro-life. Someone who says I am against abortion, but I am in agreement with the inhuman treatment of immigrants in the United States, I don’t know if that’s pro-life. They are very complex issues, I don’t know if anyone has all the truth on them. But I would ask first and foremost that there be greater respect for one another and that we search together both as human beings, in that case as American citizens or as citizens of the state of Illinois, as well as Catholics, to say we really need to really look closely at all of these ethical issues and to find the way forward as a church.”
