The above false statement is perfectly understandable and the primary reason why you never ever trust clerics to make sound political statements based on facts. In this case, the statement from the Orthodox (and the Greek-Melkite Catholic Church) is an obvious attempt made by clerical know-nothings to attempt to appease the brutality of their overlords. Basically it's an example of we'll say nice things about you if you don't kill us or destroy our churches. I don't blame them for distorting the truth this way (read: lying). The Prime Minister also indicated there was other intelligence based evidence which she was unable to share with the public, saying: "I cannot tell you everything.”
France has also said it has similar proof that "chemical weapons were used in the attack - at least chlorine - and that they were used by Bashar al-Assad's regime. Link ------------------------------ So Trump, Mattis, our intelligence and the intelligence of England and France are all wrong because of what? Is it because of a contradictory statement from clerics who have zero intelligence gathering sources?
Look, Putin is undeniably a thug and former KGB agent who has plundered Russia for billions during his 18 year reign of terror. The Russians invaded Ukraine, took over Crimea and shot down a civilian airliner over Ukraine. Regardless of whether one supports this strategic airstrike or not, Russia is still the bad guy and deservedly so. Keep in mind that Russia is the same country that said they would help get all the chemical weapons out of Syria. Looks like the Russians lied. Not surprising.
