An expert canonist and priest, who prefers to remain anonymous due to the sensitivity of this issue, shares his views on Pope Francis’ reportedly clear support for same-sex civil unions. The Vatican has so far not clarified or corrected Francis’ remarks which were given in a new documentary film Francesco. His comments as they appeared in the film were: “Homosexuals have a right to be a part of the family. They’re children of God and have a right to a family. Nobody should be thrown out, or be made miserable because of it. What we have to create is a civil coexistence [union] law. That way they are legally covered.
