After 1967 should be considered a devolution, I would think. This may have been a misbegotten, albeit failed, attempt to be 'closer to the people' but as a post 1967 youngster I could spot a Loretto nun from a mile away, (and it wasn't the little Holy Spirit pin, so many of them initially wore on their lapel!)
