Dopo la manifestazione ai pastori nella Notte Santa e la pubblica manifestazione ai Re Magi nel giorno dell’Epifania, la liturgia di questa Domenica ci porta nell’intimità della Sacra Famiglia. L’istituzione di questa festa è relativamente recente: fu Leone XIII nel 1893 a istituirla per la terza Domenica dopo l’Epifania, e Benedetto XV, nel 1921, a fissarla alla Domenica tra l’Ottava. Non dimentichiamo che in quegli anni la Chiesa Cattolica e la società erano reduci dalle persecuzioni dei governi liberali e massonici dell’Ottocento e dagli orrori della Grande Guerra. L’attacco alla società cristiana si stava concretizzando anzitutto contro la famiglia, e in particolare contro la famiglia cattolica. Epifanie est un terme grec – ἐπιφάνεια – qui signifie manifestation, tout comme apocalypse signifie dévoilement. L’Épiphanie et l’Apocalypse sont en quelque sorte unis par ce fait de se montrer de la divinité de Jésus-Christ : la première dans le tribut des Mages au Roi-Enfant ; la seconde dans l’affirmation glorieuse de la Royauté divine du juste Juge à la fin des temps. La première comme acte volontaire de soumission à la suprême Seigneurie de Notre Seigneur ; la seconde comme la restauration de cette Seigneurie universelle à laquelle le monde – rebelle et apostat – devra nécessairement se soumettre.
