can’t wait to go to the best place in the world (Europe) finally next month. I am going to Italy and will eat the best food, use the ATM (in English?), buy things in Euros, wear the perfect outfits, take the best pictures and walk a lot so get exercise. Also will go to church.

Italy (and all of Europe) has changed A LOT during the last decades: don't expect too much, otherwise you'll find yourself disappointed. Even the climate is getting worse every year...
Real Catholics are very rare to find in Italy (and Europe) these days...
Italy desperately needs a revival, and it will come, but we're not there yet.

I discovered today that Pope Benedict XIV’s encyclical titled Unambiguous is specifically and entirely about Lenten fasting, although the translation of an excerpt included in my missal suggested the message was about the general observance of Lent.
Summary: “The whole Church, spread throughout the Christian world, believes that it must include, among the main cornerstones of right doctrine, the Lenten fast. . . . With fasting, as if a mark of our militia, we are distinguished from the enemies of the Church. . . . No one is permitted to dispense without just reason and the advice of two doctors. . . .
