BREAKING: Belgium Parliament passes law allowing children to be euthanized

BRUSSELS, February 13, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Belgium has become the first country in the world to approve euthanasia for children of all ages after the country’s parliamentarians passed the controversial bill today in a vote of 86 to 44, with 12 MPs abstaining.
Alex Schadenberg, executive director of the Euthanasia Prevention Coalition, called the move a “form of abandonment.”
“Belgium has abandoned the elderly, and now they are saying they will abandon their children,” he told LifeSiteNews.
Schadenberg said the new law is not about ending suffering for children with disabilities, but about expanding the “categories that are eligible for death.”

Two Men at Vatican Threaten To Set Themselves on Fire.
by Reuters 2/11/14 - VATICAN CITY - Two men who had threatened to set themselves on fire in St. Peter's Square to protest Italy's economic slump were taken away by police on Tuesday.
The men held plastic bottles and lighters and roared angry criticism of the Italian government for about two hours before the police moved in. Firefighters and police had cornered them off from a crowd of onlookers.
The two men were part of a small group protesting against Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta's government and a political class they see as living luxuriously while ordinary people struggle in an economy that has not grown since mid-2011.
"Hunger strike, Italian man with a family asks for asylum. Help me (Pope) Francis," read a sign one of the men wore around his neck.

Rome, Italy, Feb 6, 2014 / 10:00 am (CNA/EWTN News).- The Legionaries of Christ revealed the names of their new general council on Feb. 6, also issuing a formal apology to those hurt by the immoral actions of their founder.
The announcement of the new superiors comes in wake of the Legionaries’ first General Chapter meeting, which began on Jan. 9, and was mandated by Benedict XVI in wake of the revelation of the double-life led by the congregation’s founder, Fr. Marcial Maciel, who is since deceased.
In a Feb. 6 press release, the Legionaries revealed the election of Fr. Eduardo Robles Gil as their new General Director, and Fr. Juan José Arrieta, as Vicar General.
