Father Jonathan Morris, a former member of the Legion of Christ who was at one time among the most prominent Catholic priests in America as a contributor to Fox News, has asked to be dismissed from the clerical state, indicating he wants to be free to “marry and have a family” though saying it’s not about an “existing relationship.”
Full message:
Jonathan Morris on May 17: "Some personal news: After taking some months of sabbatical to be with family and to dedicate more time to prayerand retreat, I have decided to ask the Holy Father, Pope Francis, to release me from the dutiesand responsibilities of the clerical state (priestly vows).
Taking this step is something I have considered often and at length in years past and discussedwith my spiritual guides. While I have loved and thrived in so many aspects of my ministry, deepin my interior I have struggled for years with my vocation and with the commitments that the Catholic priesthood demands, especially not being able to marry and have …More

Abandoning vocation happens in as much it is about self-ego and not sacrifice to Our Lord Jesus Christ through Mary - Mother of God.

Pretty sad.
Pray for our priests. They are under such a heavy burden.
Wonder how many will look for the door after Amazon Synod?

Whenever I have seen him on TV, my first reaction was always: He looks to be someone who has led a very sheltered life--a 35+ year old man who seems like a 16 year old planning for the high school junior prom. I wonder whether during formation he ever thought of leaving and asked God, with St Paul, What do you want me to do?

Jonathan Morris was a JPII vocation, ordained about 15 years into the papacy of JPII. After the Wojtyla papacy BXVI followed. Now with Francis we have a pope who considers theology to be ideology, tries to find an way out of moral obligation, and insults those who disagree with him. I wonder whether in some way Pope Francis, recklessly trying to eliminate what he considers weeds, has played a role in killing the Morris vocation, whose seeds we're planted under JPII.

There seems to be something like: Post Legionary Syndrome

It's too bad he didn't get married before becoming a priest. Poor priest.

He has “discerned” that “not being able to marry and have a family” is a sacrifice God no longer wants him to make.

Oh, how foolish. Poor fellow.

At least he is honest about his feelings ,he is no hiding like some other clergy

I think he is making use of the forthcoming Amazonian sin-nod.

I'm sure Francis could use him. What impeccable timing the Judas has!

Disgraceful...

Mr Morris, you do not have that option!!! If he marries he will be living in mortal sin of adultery and ultimately end up in Hell..pray for him!!!!
Dr Bobus
If he is laicized by the pope, he will be free to marry.
Lalanz
Sorry to say, but once ordained a priest, it’s forever!!! Mr Morris at the end of his life, when soul is out of body, he will realize this harsh reality!!!
