The Secret of Love of God and a Neighbor ~ ‘How virtues are accomplished by means of our neighbour…’ ~ 'The Dialogue' of Saint Catherine of Siena; Translated from Italian by ALGAR THOROLD, 1907; ‘DIVINE PROVIDENCE’; pp. 43-47

[Saint Catherine of Siena /Caterina di Benincasa/; XIV-XV Century AD; Siena, Republic of Siena/Rome, Papal States; aged 33; Spiritual Writer; Mystic; Virgin; Doctor of the Church]
‘How virtues are accomplished by means of our neighbour and how it is that virtues differ to such an extent in creatures.’
" I have told thee how all sins are accomplished by means of thy neighbour,
through the principles which I exposed to thee, that is, because men are deprived of the affection of love, which gives light to every virtue. In the same way self-love, which destroys charity and affection towards the neighbour, is the principle and foundation of every evil. All scandals, hatred, cruelty, and every sort of trouble proceed from this perverse root of self-love, which has poisoned the entire world, and weakened the mystical body of the Holy Church, and the universal body of the believers in the Christian religion ; and, therefore, I said to thee, that it was in the neighbour, that is to say in the …More

Human Rights Watch (HRW) issued a report on April 15 stating that the 2018 agreement between China and the Vatican has helped the Chinese government to increase pressure on underground Catholics. It has called on Pope Leo XIV to review or repeal the agreement and to press China to end the persecution. One priest cited by HRW was denied access to banking, phone services, and passports. Furthermore, there is a de facto ban on religious practice for persons under 18.

Human Rights Watch: Vatican-China deal has aided religious persecution

(PerMariam) — The watchdog agency Human Rights Watch (HRW) has warned that the controversial 2018 deal between China and the Vatican has “helped the Chinese government to pressure underground Catholic communities to join the official church.”
According to a detailed new report issued by HRW, the Chinese state is only increasing its persecution of underground Catholics, and is doing so aided by the framework of the 2018 deal between Beijing and the Holy See regarding the appointment of bishops.
“The 2018 Holy See-China agreement on bishops has helped the Chinese government to pressure underground Catholic communities to join the official church,” HRW wrote on April 15.

Having been signed in 2018 on a provisional basis, the secretive Sino-Vatican deal’s specific details remain undisclosed: a peculiar air of mystery surrounds them. It has since been renewed a number of times, most recently in 2024 for a period of four years.

Holy Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Saint John 6,44-51.
Jesus said to the crowds: "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him, and I will raise him on the last day.
It is written in the prophets: 'They shall all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.
Not that anyone has seen the Father except the one who is from God; he has seen the Father.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.
I am the bread of life.
Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;
this is the bread that comes down from heaven so that one may eat it and not die.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world."

Why God Permits Trials In Your Life
The Gospel reading assures us that Jesus will not reject anyone who comes to Him, offering consolation and hope despite our unworthiness. However, we must truly believe in Him and allow Him to be Lord of our lives, recognizing that God allows all things for our good and growth in virtue. By trusting in God’s providence and seeking His will, we can find peace and praise Him even in difficult circumstances.

Francis' Main Legacy Are Unsuitable, Bad Bishops

On 22 April, ElWanderer.com wrote that one of the most painful legacies of Francis’s pontificate was the bishops he left the Church.
In Argentina, Francis appointed 67 bishops, choosing them from among priests who lacked the most basic and essential qualities.
On at least three occasions, Francis appointed bishops in Argentina who accepted the nomination but then renounced their consecration weeks later. The rumoured reason was 'skeletons in the closet'.
The same happened with the failed Indonesian bishop, Pascalis Syukur: he was chosen as a cardinal by Bergoglio in 2024, gladly accepted the designation, but resigned a few days later. It later emerged that he had been in a romantic relationship with a woman with whom he had two children.
It seems likely that Francis appointed bishops from among priests he found personally agreeable or with whom he had some affinity.
ElWanderer gives another example. All of the Jesuits who formed the Bergoglian group in the 1980s are now bishops.

Acts of the Apostles 8,26-40.
The angel of the Lord spoke to Philip, "Get up and head south on the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza, the desert route."
So he got up and set out. Now there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of the Candace, that is, the queen of the Ethiopians, in charge of her entire treasury, who had come to Jerusalem to worship,
and was returning home. Seated in his chariot, he was reading the prophet Isaiah.
The Spirit said to Philip, "Go and join up with that chariot."
Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet and said, "Do you understand what you are reading?"
He replied, "How can I, unless someone instructs me?" So he invited Philip to get in and sit with him.
This was the scripture passage he was reading: "Like a sheep he was led to the slaughter, and as a lamb before its shearer is silent, so he opened not his mouth.
In (his) humiliation justice was denied him. Who will tell of his posterity? For his life is taken from the earth." …

Apostelgeschichte 8,26-40.

A priest admits that the Novus Ordo Mass, as it is, doesn’t naturally foster reverence or the priest’s inner spiritual life and requires extra effort to make it meaningful.
The author finds it surprising that people can recognize this problem without concluding that something went seriously wrong when this newer form replaced the traditional, spiritually rich rite that nourished many saints.
In short, instead of trying to improve the Novus Ordo, the author argues that the Church should return fully to the traditional rite, calling this the most important task for the Western Church today.

The Novus Ordo and the Interior Life

We’ve all been to our fair share of banal, cringe, or even disrespectful Novus Ordo Masses. As a priest who celebrates the Novus Ordo, I can see how easy it is in the New Rite to fall into those traps. It is evermore necessary, then, for a priest who celebrates the Novus Ordo to cultivate a rich interior life of union with Christ because this is the only antidote to the myriad of temptations to trivialize the liturgy.
This temptation does not exist in the TLM. By the very structure of the liturgy, it is nearly impossible to celebrate it irreverently. Of course, every priest should live in intimacy with God, but even a priest who doesn’t pray much can still celebrate the TLM in an objectively reverent way. The Latin Mass is structured in such a way as to eliminate the temptation for a priest to insert his personality, his ego, and his weaknesses into the liturgy.
Of course, this is not foolproof. St. Alphonsus Liguori, in his Dignity and Duties of the Priest, states that a priest commits …

Scientists baffled by mysterious 1,200-year-old coin linking Vikings to Jesus

A shocking discovery has unearthed an apparent link between Vikings and the teachings of Jesus, rewriting what historians assumed about the spread of Christianity 1,200 years ago.
A person searching for possible treasure
with a metal detector in the UK's county of Norfolk recently found a small, incomplete gold coin which had been turned into a pendant.
An analysis revealed that the coin was from the late ninth century, likely between the 860s and 870s AD, a time when Vikings had just conquered the kingdom of East Anglia in eastern England and were establishing control over the region.
Strangely, this coin displayed the face of a bearded man with the Latin word 'IOAN,' which is short for John.
The other side had a partial Latin inscription that appeared to read 'Baptist and Evangelist' after being translated to English by experts.
Although Vikings of this time were thought to be mostly pagan during this era, worshipping the Norse Gods such as Odin and Thor, the strange coin has opened …

Blessed Maria Gabriella Sagheddu - April 23
Also known as
Maria Gabriella
Mary-Gabrielle Sagheddu
Memorial
23 April
Profile
Born to a family of shepherds. As a child she was described as obstinate, critical, protesting, and rebellious – but loyal, and obedient; she would say no to a request – but act on it at once. At 18 she became gentler, her temper abated, she became involved in prayer and charity, and joined “Azione Cattolic,” a Catholic youth movement. At 21 she entered the Trappestine monastery of Grottaferrata. When she was accepted, her attitude finally became “Now do what You will.” When the community’s leader explained a request for prayer and offering for the great cause of Christian Unity, Maria Gabriella felt compelled to offer her young life to the cause. Though she’d never been sick before, she suddenly developed tuberculosis. In a mere 15 months spent in prayer for Unity, it took her to her death.

Maria Sagheddu (17 March 1914 – 23 April 1939), also known by her religious name Maria Gabriella, was an Italian Roman Catholic nun and a professed member from the Trappists. Sagheddu had an intense spiritual devotion to ecumenism – something for which she had offered her life – since she desired that all would become one in Jesus Christ. Her childhood saw her noted as stubborn and obstinate though her increased activeness in teaching catechism and joining Azione Cattolica saw those qualities melt and become gentleness and careful attentiveness.
Sagheddu was beatified in Rome in 1983.
